9 times out of 10 when I talk to someone about acupuncture, I get the response: “Oh, I don’t have any pain anywhere right now.” People know how well acupuncture works to treat musculoskeletal pain. Ankle sprain – no problem! Sore back – fixed right up! Tennis elbow – we’ll have you on the courts in no time! But I don’t think people realize how well acupuncture works for more internal pain. We treat painful periods with a great deal of success. We can treat the cramping associated with IBS, too. Now new research shows that acupuncture helps with the pain associated with chronic prostatitis, or chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). Not only did this research demonstrate a nearly 90 percent reduction in pain associated with chronic prostatitis, but it also showed that markers in the blood associated with pain and inflammation were reduced by acupuncture treatment for prostatitis.
