I have been writing about bisphenol-a (BPA) for years. BPA is everywhere and in everything… well, nearly everything. There are few easy ways to avoid it:

  • Don’t buy drinks sold in plastic bottles
  • Don’t buy canned goods unless marked BPA-free
  • Don’t use plastic tupperware / storage containers
  • Don’t get take-out in plastic or plastic-coated containers
Here are some things you should do instead:
  • Use glass and stainless steel containers to store your food
  • Buy a BPA-free stainless steel water bottle
  • Buy BPA-free baby bottles, which come in glass and plastic varieties
The combination of long-term storage of anything or very hot or very cold food and drinks kept in plastic containers will lead to leaching of BPA into your food or drink.
Once you’ve got your BPA exposure under control, it’s time to start thinking about avoiding all possible contaminants with estrogenic activity (EA). Chris Kesser writes a great post about this topic. You should read it. Why? Well, BPA and other chemicals with EA cause a whole host of problems for us, ranging from ADHD to infertility to obesity. BPA is dangerous. There are no two ways about it. Minimize your exposure.
