Great news from Albany today!

After a lot of hard work on the part of the Acupuncture Society of New York, the New York State Department of Civil Services has begun allowing acupuncture done by licensed acupuncturists to be covered under the NYSHIP Empire Plan (United Healthcare). The New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) covers State and Local Government active employees.

This means that a huge group of people whose visits to licensed acupuncturists weren’t previously covered by their health insurance are now covered. More access to good medicine is a good thing. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective, safe and cost-effective. Everyone deserves access to care.

Now we’re one step closer to getting acupuncture covered by insurance as a matter of routine, not as an exception.

Good work, ASNY! Thank you DCS!
